What makes a word search truly large print?
Plenty of puzzle books say 'large print' on the cover and then squeeze a 20-by-20 grid onto half a page. For comfortable solving, the letters themselves need to be big — at least the size of newspaper headlines — with clear spacing between them, a grid that doesn't crowd the page, and a word list printed just as large as the grid.
Our printable word searches use a 12-by-12 grid with eight words per puzzle. That is deliberate: fewer, larger letters mean the puzzle is a pleasure rather than a squint, and eight words is enough for a satisfying quarter-hour without becoming a chore.
Gentle by design
Every word in our puzzles reads forwards — across, down, or diagonally — never backwards. Backwards words are the single biggest source of frustration in word searches, and leaving them out makes the puzzle friendlier without making it dull.
Each day has a theme drawn from warm, familiar territory: the garden, the seaside, baking day, old films. Themed lists give you a gentle head start, because you know the sort of word you're hunting for.
